Newsletter 09/26/16

Dear parents and guardians,

Please make sure that you have turned in TB registration papers to the office or myself. If you misplaced them, let me know, I will be happy to send you another copy.  

Important dates:
Early Release will be on October 5th and 6th.
No school will be on October 7th and October 14th. 
Parent Conferences will be held on October 6th and 7th.

Grammar Focus: Subject and Predicates
Complete Subject: My grandfather from Japan traveled to California.
Simple Subject: My grandfather from Japan traveled to California.
The predicate is the part of the sentences that tells what the subject is or does. All the words in the predicate are called the complete predicate. The simple predicate, or verb, is the most important word in the complete predicate.
Complete Predicate: My grandfather from Japan traveled to California.

Phases of the Moon

Today in Science we learned about the 8 phases of the moon. Please ask your child about each phase. I know they will be eager to tell you about the New Moon, Full Moon, and the two quarter moons. We also went into depth about definitions of waxing and waning. Students were stuffed with oreos after this experiment today. They got to create the phases with icing and cookies. Newsletter 09/06

Parents and Guardians,
I hope you all had a fantastic Labor Day weekend. School is already starting to fly by. We have lots planned for this week.

Important Dates:
Open House: THIS THURSDAY, September 8th from 5-6.

Spelling Words: sigh, right, weigh, eight, detail, height, spray, braid, bait, grain, slight, thigh, tight, raisin, trait, highway, frighten, dismay, freight, and sleigh.
Bonus Words: eighteen, mayonnaise, campaign, daylight, and twilight

Vocabulary Words:
docks- platforms built on the shore or out from the shore; wharves; piers
migrating- going from one region to another with the change in seasons
scan- to glance at; look over hastily
wharf- platform built on the shore or out from the shore beside which ships can load or unload
yearned- felt a longing or desire
scent- a smell

Grammar Focus: Imperative and Exclamatory Sentences. Imperative- gives a command. Exclamatory- it shows a strong feeling or surprise and usually ends with an exclamation mark.

Class DOJO: Please let me know if you would like to still be connected. I can put you in the class through email or phone. This allows you to see your child’s behavior throughout the day.

Scholastic Book Orders are due at the end of September. You can order online using my code: PBRG3 or you can turn in the book order at school with cash or check.
